x_thedoctor_xThe Doctor was going over the figures one more time, needing to make sure they time it perfectly. They had to land on the ship after Adric made his changes, but before it blows up, which was a very small window. They would be cutting it close, but damn it all if the risk of it all didn't have him grinning like a fool.
"Right, one more time. We materialize, you make sure Adric has altered the coordinates, then pull him into the TARDIS, and we jump back into the vortex before everything explodes." His grin is manic. "Easy peasy."
"Ready, Captain my Captain?"

Date: 2013-08-10 05:15 am (UTC)As they came out of the vortex the Doctor stared at the monitor. After a few tense seconds he yelled, "Now Jack! Grab him!" and the Doctor started jumping around the console changing coordinates to put them back into the vortex as soon as they were both back inside.

Date: 2013-08-11 02:17 am (UTC)Jack ran out of the TARDIS and showed off why he was so good at multitasking by managing to check the computer log and grab Adric in one move. "Sorry kiddo Doctor's orders," he says yanking the young man back into the time ship. "Okay go," he yells at the Time Lord.

Setting him down he dug around in his pocket and pulled out a very faded star shaped badge. "I think this belongs to you. Blimey, we're going to need to get you a new wardrobe."
Adric was looking confused, but thoughtful. "You regenerated. What happened? Where are Tegan and Nyssa?"
"Oh." The Doctor's excitement faded a bit and he ran his fingers through his hair. "Well, that was about, what, five regenerations ago? Back then, you died on the exploding ship that actually was responsible for the death of the dinosaurs. That was you!" he said, his grin back in place. "All those bones we saw, you did that, opening the door for a new time on Earth."
Adric was frowning. "But, you can't do that. If I died and now I'm alive, you've changed, well I'll need a bit of a time to calculate the sheer number of things you've changed that shouldn't be changed. You have to put me back on that ship."
The Doctor's face darkened. "The hell I do. Time is mine to control, the last of the Time Lords, the only one left, Adric. My decision. Mine.." The last came out as a bit of a growl.
"Jack, talk to him," he said, beginning to pace, ignoring the alarm bells going off in the back of his mind about what he'd done. Time Lord Victorious. This was his decision and it would stand.

"It's alright we talked about this and changed the one thing in the Doctor's time line that could be. I used to be a Time Agent I know about this type of stuff. Trust me don't fight him it won't end well."

"You know better than to do this, what it will mean. By my calculations, the changes this can make to millions of time lines is infinite! You have to put me back," Adric said, as if it were settled.
The Doctor ground his teeth together, glaring at Adric. "I don't have to any such thing. I'm taking you home to live out your life as it should have been lived. My rules."
"You said you were the last. What about Romana? The Master? Where are they?"
"Dead. Gallifrey is gone. I'm all that survives and I make the rules now, so just shut up and let me do what I came here to do."

Adric takes out a pad of paper and pen and begins scribbling numbers, ignoring both the men.
The Doctor looks at Jack, shaking his head, both angry and confused. "I saved his life, he gets to live it out how it should have been lived. He can make so many changes for the better, I don't understand why he's so upset. He should be grateful," he adds, scowling at Adric.

Date: 2013-08-19 10:30 pm (UTC)The Doctor glared at Jack, feeling betrayed. "What? You want me to put him back on that ship, let him die when he doesn't have to? I saved him, Jack. It's my duty to set things right. I am god in this universe, I decide who lives and dies," he growls.
Adric looked at him as if he were an interesting bug in a jar.
"What happened to you, Doctor? You know the rules of time and you're breaking them. You know better."
The Doctor turned on Adric, his teeth clenched in anger. "What happened to me? You died! I was forced to kill all of my people to stop the Time War. Gallifrey is gone Adric. That means I make the rules now, and I can break any of the old rules if I so desire. That is what happened to me, Adric. I have blood on my hands that will never wash off. But you, you I can save!" His anger melted away into a deep sadness. "You, I can save."
Adric had taken a step back in the face of the Time Lord's rage, moving closer to Jack, who seemed the more stable of the two. When he spoke, his voice was soft.
"So what happens now? You take me home? I change the flow of history on my planet? A whole world that's changed because you bring me back, because it will change, Doctor. And there is a very big chance that those changes could lead to something horrific. It's why we don't change fixed points in time. You know this."
"I don't care!" the Doctor snarled. Adric always had been a brat, and he was even worse now.

There are threads of gold mixed in with the blue of his eyes and his voice is deeper and angrier then it has ever been. "Stop this Doctor," he growls, "we do not kill and we do not force our will onto others. If he wishes to die, let him die...there are others would be more accepting of the gift we will bring them."

Date: 2013-08-21 01:46 am (UTC)For a long, stretched out moment, the Doctor glared angrily at Jack, his lips looking more like a snarl than his usual smile. But something in Jack's tone made him deflate, shaking his head.
"Alright. I'll take you back," he says, moving to the console to adjust the settings.
Adric smiles sadly, then grins. "At least I know it worked. That was the one thing I wanted to know before I died, if it worked or not. Now I know. Thank you, Doctor."
Sighing, the Doctor walks back to Adric and presses his Star to his shirt. "Can't go off without this now, can you?" he says wearily.
Then he looks at Jack. "I'll put us back on board the ship. It's going to be close or we'll cross our own time stream."
He stared at the console. "Sorry kid, but we won't be able to stick around. As soon as you're out the door, we're gone. Are you sure this is what you want?" he asks, finally looking at Adric.
"One hundred percent certain, Doctor. I'm a fixed point and that's how I need to remain."
"Alright. Jack, make sure he's out that door the second we materialize, because we're going to dematerialize just as fast," the Doctor warned.
Adric stares at him, a small smile on his face. "Thank you, Doctor. For everything."
The Doctor swallows hard, then nods. "Ready gentleman?" He slams down a lever, waits a few seconds then shouts, "Now, Jack!"
And just like that, Adric was gone and they were back in the Vortex, the Doctor feeling drained, confused, angry and other emotions he didn't want to think about.

After a while he speaks his voice slightly hesitant and unsure. "He wasn't worth our time Doctor....you have to believe that."

His mind, it could have done so many things and he just let it extinguish like a blown out candle." His lip curled into a sneer. "You're right. I don't know why I bothered. "You and me and bugger the rest!" he finally manages, nodding his head. "You have my back and I've got yours. What else do we need really? And don't say sex, because we have that in spades," the Doctor grinned, leaning over to nuzzle Jack's neck, to take in his familiar and comforting scent. All of the tension of the last hour melted away at the scent, letting the Doctor finally relax, his head on Jack's shoulder.
